Belfast Design Week Project

94.8% of all websites and inaccessible

Why is it so important?

Accessibility in design is essential because it ensures that products, services and digital experiences can be used by everyone regardless of their ability. It is about fairness and inclusion and ensures that people with diverse needs are not excluded, enables equal access and participation for all. In the UK, accessibility isn’t optional, it is a legal requirement backed by regulations and standards such as the Equality Act 2010, the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 and the European Accessibility Act.

Beyond legal obligations, accessibility also brings clear business benefits as accessible products reach larger audiences, improve customer satisfaction and reduce the risk of legal or reputational damage to that company.

What needs to be accessible?
