What Is A User Journey Map?

A journey Map is a visualisation of the process that a person goes through in order to accomplish a goal. A Journey Map starts by combining a number of interactions a user completes into a timeline of their process, outlining the emotions they may feel throughout their journey and potential opportunities for the user

Mapping Out Basic User Journey

I began by mapping out the current user journey from receiving the initial appointment letter through to waiting in the waiting room and being called for the appointment as this is the primary focus of my project. This process helped clarify the overall flow in my head and provided a strong foundation for creating detailed user journey maps.

I had previously explored this journey ( Defining Idea Area) so this will also be helpful when mapping out the current and proposed journey maps for this project. Building on this earlier work allowed me to refine my understanding and ensure consistency across the different stages of the design process.

Current User Journey Map

I started off creating a journey map of the current journey children and their parents take when visiting a hospital using my desk research and survey results. For this I combined both the parents and child perspective as currently they are experiencing the same journey, just with slightly different perspectives. I mapped out the journey with 5 main key steps:

By doing this, it has helped me identify areas of the journey that can be improved and allowed me to start thinking about what changes could be made to this journey to enhance it for children and their parents to help reduce fear and worries
