Starting off I drew all my blood sugar characters on procreate so I had them all prepared digitally to add to my app UI designs. I stuck with them all having the same facial expressions and body language as my original drawings but also created some new alternatives.

I then moved onto Figma to create a basic wireframe of how I wanted my screens to look. The first page is going to be the first page you see when the UI opens and the alert comes up. It will have one of the characters depending on your blood sugar levels expressing how you might feel and also outlining the problem for why you might feel that way. On the second page you will swipe onto it shows you your current blood sugar levels and tips on how to improve it such as eating sugar or starchy food for low levels or the dose of insulin you should inject for high levels. I also hope to add the time and the app name at the top of the screen as this is how it would look when it is being used on a watch.

From these low resolution mock-ups I started to add elements of the design into the screens starting off with each character, using a grid to ensure they were the same size on all screens and creating a speech bubble component which I can apply to all my screens.

I also took a look at changing the second screen you slide onto and tweaked the mock up for it so I could include the little character but also still provide the information such as the current levels and how to improve the users blood sugar levels.

I then went onto start creating what my screens were going to look like with all the content having been entered. To keep each screen as consistent as possible despite the change in character and text, I used lots of guide lines to keep them straight and to the same proportions. I decided to use the SF pro font family for my typefaces as I wanted to incorporate the feel of apple throughout my UI and I felt it was a very similar fit. I also added the app name to the screen as when you use most apps on a smartwatch it is present. I chose the name Hypo as diabetics say when they have low blood sugar levels they are having a hypo.

At this stage I know there is a lot of further improvements I could make to my smartwatch UI however I am happy with how it has turned out so far and has helped delivered a solution to the problem I am trying to solve. Not only is it fun to use and inform you but it provides you with options on how to manage your blood pressure.
I want to further investigate background colours as well as the colours for the little box of the second page.
