After conducting some initial research and looking at child friendly platforms, I started to create some ideas for my own project. There had been quite a bit of discussion whether a phone app was the most appropriate device type to be using for this target audience and I agreed. However after I did a bit of research, children as young as 3 have access to a smartphone and many people say that they start to introduce their child to the idea of them having their own phone at around the age of 10 or 11 so therefore it could actually be quite appropriate.

Problem Statement

After previously learning about problem statements for my autonomous vehicle, I decided to use one for this project too so I am able to define my user and ensure I design for all their needs and requirements. By doing this I can make informed decisions based on my user and communicate efficiently.

User Persona

I created a user persona to get a better idea of a target user I was designing for. I created the basis of this using an AI tool and then altered it slightly to meet more of the projects brief.

Idea Mind Map

<aside> đź’ Reflection

After doing this mind map, I decided on either creating a visual game or a visual app that allows children to click on different elements of a map and learn facts. Another idea I had thought off is a word search which asks questions and the answers are hidden within the Word Search. Both these ideas would mean presenting the information in a more simpler form which is visual.

From this I decided on either a map with interactive elements or a quiz style game like “which SDG am I?” I had done quite bit of previous research on maps so I decided to look a bit closer at personality quizzes. This could either be the user being asked multiple questions before finding out what SDG they are based on their answers or a TikTok style filter which is random generated and then gives you facts.

Initial Ideas & Sketches

Idea One - Quiz

My first idea is a quiz focusing on “What Sustainable Goal Are You?” where the child answers questions and then gets given a SDG based on their answers. I thought this would be a really fun and interactive ideas as children love to take photos with filters on platforms such as snapchat or a quiz on to help certain sustainable goals with feedback such as right or wrong.
