Issue - Onboarding Complexity
- The account creation process is quite complex for a child.
- The participant was unsure how to create an account using email and passwords as well as some onboarding information such as appointment date and time may require parental help.
- The term “companion” felt slightly formal / not understood by child.
Potential Improvements
- Reduce onboarding steps and simplify account creation
- Consider parent-assisted onboarding or a parent setup mode.
- Explore alternatives to traditional accounts:
- Parent-created profiles
- Guest mode or temporary sessions
- Device-based profiles
- Use more child-friendly language:
- “Friend”
- “Helper”
- “Guide”
Issue - Too Much Text Based Information
- The participant gravitated toward icons more than text.
- Some screens contained too much written information.
- Large text blocks reduced engagement.
Potential Improvements
- Prioritise visual communication over text by using:
- Icons
- Illustrations
- Progress visuals
- Character interactions
- Break content into smaller chunks across fewer steps.
- Use short, child-friendly sentences
