Olly Moss is a British artist and graphic designer who is best known for his distinctive illustrations and designs. He has worked on a wide range of projects including posters, book covers, album artwork. The work that particularly stands out to me is his reinterpretations of classic movie posters such as Harry Potter which he uses minimalistic style and design to recreate. Within his work he pays focuses a lot on attention to detail as well as a strong composition and use of bold colouring. By using these methods he can make concepts that are slightly more complex or difficult a lot easier to understand and visually understood. It is no surprise Olly has won numerous awards for his work including several Cannes Lions and a BAFTA for his contributions to the video game Fire watch.

After the success of his posters and artwork, he was approached by Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin from Tell tale Games who were the creative leads on the walking dead who had recently launched their own studio and has a proposition. Together the three of them founded studio Campo Santo and created the video game “Firewatch”. The game follows Henry, a fire warden in the wilds of Wyoming's National Park. With no company but a radio link to his supervisor, Henry finds mysterious happenings drawing him from the safety of his watchtower. The environments of the game were created from sketches by Olly Moss and then turned into the 3D world by the Campo Santos designers. After the initial environment was created, Olly then added small details such as colour and lighting to fully produce the environment that he has envisioned for the game,

The illustrative sketches that Olly created are amazing and look exceptional once they have been created to fit the 3D environment and have been edited through photoshop. Every little detail is so amazing and I cannot believe that it was produced from Olly Moss’s sketches!

Some of Ollys other illustrative pieces that I really like are the Harry Potter posters. Each poster has the same main illustration of the castle but each one is altered and slightly different. Each poster has a little nod to the film it is for such as the Chamber of Secrets has the Wesley car and uses colouring which reflects the mood of the film/book really well. I think it is amazing how such little detail changes can impact each poster and reflect the mood of each film so well.
