Although skiing is very much a single sport and skiing alone can have many benefits, it can also be quite dangerous to ski alone on the slopes as well as the feeling or being in an unfamiliar environment alone while travelling and the worry of feeling isolated and vulnerable.
Some the most common reasons why you shouldn’t ski alone is in case of injury. If you are to fall, sometimes you need the help from someone else to get back up and help you find your equipment especially if you have dropped a pole or lost a ski. Without a buddy you are left to fend for yourself and in the event you are to break a bone, which is probably more likely than you think, there is nobody to help or console you! This is especially dangerous if you were to go off track as you could be left for hours without help and in the cold conditions, you could rapidly decline.
Skiing alone as normally leads to people making bad decisions such as going off-piste or into closed areas which could be dangerous because there is nobody to hold you back when the thrills get the better of you. This can lead to so many outcome such as you getting lost, injured or even getting caught up in an avalanche which is a very scary prospect to anyone.
Although you ski down a slope alone, there is also a very strong social aspect to skiing, especially when waiting in queues or sitting on the ski lift. When you are alone, it sometimes feels a bit awkward and lonely. In my opinion, skiing should be made a group activity because it just boosts the excitement when your counting down the days and the overall experience when you get there whether you are on or off the slopes.
I took a look at different ski forums to be able to grasp how much of an impact this idea would make as well as just reviews of people who maybe had skied alone in the past.
Through looking at the TripAdvisor forum, there is a a lot of people looking for ski friends whether that is for skiing on the slopes with people of a similar standard, their own age or generally just for company but also for après ski activities and generally improve their holiday enjoyment.
What I really took away from this is that people really enjoy meeting others but the anticipation of not knowing anyone before you go is a really nerve-wracking prospect. The other worry people has is not meeting people who are the same vibe as them, ski at the same pace or be your ski level or that they generally will not get on.
Some of the most important points I could include in my idea:
Mature ski groups
Fun younger ski groups
Ski groups based on ability
Single sex or mixed ski groups
Skiing at the same pace
Solo skier = high prices
Where to go?
Best ski villages for….
Après ski available
meeting people with the same vibes
