I began by creating a quick mind map to identify the potential users. This helped me consider a wider range of users when developing my user personas and ensured that all potential user groups were accounted for including primary, secondary and tertiary users.

Scenario
Before his appointment, Leo is introduced to the app as a story he can follow with his parent while visiting the hospital. The story reassures him that his parent will stay with him for most of the visit and gently explains when short separations might happen. When he arrives the app uses the app to help him navigate unfamiliar spaces while feeling supported by familiar characters.
In the waiting room, the app frames the wait as part of the story and provides him with shared activities that help distract Leo and reduce his anxiety.By the time Leo is called in, he feels calmer and more prepared, as the narrative has helped reduce his fear of the unknown and reassured him about being separated from his parent.

Scenario
Before the appointment, Lara explores the app at home with her parent and uses to to learn what will happen and reassures her that her parent will stay close. On arrival at the hospital, she recognises familiar characters and visuals from the app, helping her feel calmer.
While navigating to the ward and waiting, the app frames each stage as part of the story, providing quiet reassurance and simple activities. As a result, Lara feels more prepared, less overwhelmed and better able to cope with the appointment.
