This week we took a look at creating E-Books for the next part of our Apollo Projects. I am yet to decide if I want to create an E-Book or a website. Some of the main characteristics include being converted into a format that is not editable. This is due to thousands of people who could potentially change the content having access to it on so in order to qualify as an eBook, text should not be able to be changed in any way, just like a paperback book. E-Books should also be reflowable meaning that no matter what the size of the screen, it will always fit your screen. One exception to this is PDFs as they aren’t reflowable but qualify as an unofficial E-Book due to its ease for download and distribution.

E-Book Formats

E-Books come in many different formats although the top three known for their ease of use and ability to be used in a format that is widely distributed are EBUP, AZW and PDF.

EPUB (.epub)

• Most widely supported format
• Can be read on a variety of devices
• Easier to read on small devices

AZW (.azw)

• Developed by Amazon for its Kindle
• Limited to Kindles or devices with Kindle apps
• Store complex content like bookmarks, annotations and highlights.

PDF (.pdf)

• Portable Document Format
• Created by Adobe
• Not a true E-Book but known for their ease of use and ability to hold custom layouts.
• Not reflowable so can be difficult to read on a small screen. .
