Prior to the critique, I had a run through of my immersive prototype to see what I want to further improve after the critique. I had the thought of removing the in between navigation screens as it causes you to have to use two clicks to access the next section which is slightly annoying and decreases user satisfaction. I also really wanted to add hover states to the buttons which move between two screens with a continuous photo so it looks the same as the other buttons which are used within the navigation.
Kyle gave me some really good and constructive criticism to help improve my immersive prototype. The first thing he said was about making the navigation size smaller as well as removing them in between each topic, which I had previously through about as it causes you to have to complete an unnecessary click. On the topic of navigation, he also said my navigation on each screen was too big and took away from the actual immersive prototype and it should either be reduced such as a floating navigation or a button which opens up a menu or navigation or just simply get rid of it.
I also got some really good feedback on how to fade the backgrounds using contrast and fade effects to make the typography stand out more and contrast better so it has a better readability. Finally he said about visualising the information on each astronaut better such as instead of just using type to show where they are from, using maps instead to visualise where they are from.
Some things he said I did really good and liked was my use of images spread across two pages as using buttons to navigate across the two such as splitting the image of the rocket down or having the moon span across multiple pages. He also really loved my use of hover states in my navigation so I would love to implement more of this like my pre critique idea.
For this critique we used the method START, STOP, CONTINUE to help access ours peers immersive prototype. I find this really helpful as it does not only allow me to get some positive feedback on things I have done well so far but also allows me to get the thoughts from my peers on things I am able to improve or change to enhance my work.
I got some really good comments about the art direction as well as the look and feel of my immersive prototype being very futuristic and spacey which was what I was going for so I am glad my vision translated well into my designs.
I also got some positive comments on my transitions and prototyping such as the typing and loading screens which I used as a sort of break for the user from scrolling
I was also provided with some really constructive START points which will help me further enhance my work such as working further on the photography used in my prototype. This includes reducing the saturation of images or adding an overlay to make the text easier to read on top of it and make the over all look and feel better. I could do this using photoshop or even simply within FIGMA. I also got a comment relating to the quality of the images and sourcing higher quality ones. This is quite a difficult thing to implement and improve as I had already spent quite a lot of time sourcing the highest quality images there was which was quite difficult for some areas as the photos were taken in 1969 and we not the best quality. I also sourced a lot of it from the NASA website itself as they always have the best resources but I will take this on board and search some more. Finally the last point links back into Kyles ideas and thoughts on reducing the clicks and the dots into the intro of each section which is something I want to alter and change to help improve the overall user experience too.
<aside> 💠I found this critique really helpful in identifying what I need to improve and work on further for my immersive prototype. I really like getting constructive criticism as it helps me to further approve although today I felt quite deflated about my overall project as it was not 100% what I envisioned and I really did not know how to improve it however these comments have really helped to create an action plan of how I want to further improve it.
