This week, I was able to show Kyle my project work so far ahead of the critique next week to get some feedback on how I can improve my autonomous vehicle dashboard screens better and also allowed me to ask him what he thought on some of my accessibility and usability features. He gave me the following improvements I could make:

Boxes & Background

I am currently using the colour #3C343C for the background and #8A858A for the box colours. Using the build in contrast checker, I had previously checked the contrast and it was AA large however Kyle suggested having a look at different shades that would contrast better and be more accessible. I had previously decided on a darker theme due to most dashboards in my research using it as well as it reducing eyestrain, being easier to read in low light and improve the speed in which people read information so I wanted to keep that theme. So to help with making some contrast improvements, I read the article “How to design delightful dark themes” from Superhuman.

I then was able to create 3 ideas for what I would like to change it to:

I ended up choosing colour choice number 3 due to its slightly better colour contrast between all elements.

Navigation Labels

My navigation labels were only size 16, so I made the quick fix of changing them to size 20.
