For our final week, we had a critique on our Design Essay Webpages. I have based mine on the cinema and logo work of Saul Bass and the question “What made Saul Bass one of the most influential graphic designers of his time?”.

Thoughts before critique

I am pretty happy with my design as it has a constant, clean layout and is nicely spaced out and easy to read. I’ve also allowed it to be quite interactive with a photo carousel of his movie poster work and another of the title sequences he worked on. I also have a navigation bar to direct the reader to each section and a button at the bottom to bring them back to the top.

Feedback

My main feedback was to resize my images so that they were all the same size throughout my website to provide an even better flow and so that they would line up even better with my body text. It was also suggested that I make my blockquote a size up on my type scale so that it stood out more among the rest of the website. As well as this I added a shadow to the type to also help it stand out. Finally a lot of people were getting the feedback to highlight specific words in their titles, something I thought my web essay could also benefit from so I highlighted the words ‘Saul Bass’ in a red type to make it stand out against the white text and black and white background image.

Reflection

I am very pleased with how my completed Web Essay looks and how much everyone in my class liked it. It is quite simplistic but I think that helps make the information stand out and works well when it comes to the simplicity of Saul Bass title sequences.
