Doing the branding project really helped me to learn about how a brand is created and what goes into the creation of a brand behind the scenes of what we see as a consumer. From visiting banks to collect data right up until I had my finished banking brand project, I found it overall somewhat enjoyable. There was many points were I definitely struggled to choose how I wanted my brand to look and had to make sure that every choice I made had reasoning behind it which at times I felt I struggled a little with but there was also some really enjoyable elements too.

Something I really enjoyed was the initial research stage as it allowed me to build a bigger picture in my mind of what different banks provided, what people want out of a banking experience and how I could apply this to my own brand. It was really interesting to survey people my age and ask them questions on what they used banking for as it gave me different opinions from mine and my classmates and allowed me to look into how I would orientate this app to suit the age 16-25 demographic and their needs. Enjoying this area really pushed me to want to build a solid solution and I think the idea of a coffee shop branch helps solve that.

Another aspect I really enjoyed was learning about the typography used and how it can impact the overall look and feel of a brand as they way the type looks paints a picture in a persons mind of what they expect a brand to be like and causes them to create initial assumptions and opinions. I liked this as typography is always used in design whether it is branding or not so building this knowledge and experience using type is really beneficial to me as a designer. We had touched on typography before in previous modules but it was really interesting to get a more in-depth knowledge and then be able to apply this to my own brand to create the correct look and feel.

Creating the app designs was also very enjoyable, although we only copied existing apps and then created our own twist, it was really enjoyable as it allowed me to apply what I had already established about my brand such as colour, typography and logos and create an app design with the same layout but a different look and feel. I also enjoyed this element when it came to creating my landing page and being able to use mock ups of products or app designs I had created for my banking app and showcase them. I liked this as I could showcase my work in a more interactive and interesting way which markets my brand to the specific audience and showcases its functions and design.

Overall I found this module quite enjoyable as it allowed me to further develop my existing design skills in colour and type as well as gain a lot more knowledge when it comes to tools to use to choose colours and type which contrast well and work together. I also enjoyed gaining so much new knowledge when it comes to what’s involved in the process behind branding as the majority of it was quite interesting to learn about and implement and I know that these skills will be very useful in the future whether I go into a career which involves branding or not.
