This week we had a critique and took a look at certain aspects of our projects which could be approved upon. I knew prior critique I needed to do a little bit more work on the colouring and typography but I needed some peer feedback and opinions on how to improve it.
I prototyped some of the game I had to create in order to give everyone a feel so how it works and the user flow I was trying to create:
My project was overall very well liked by my peers with lots of small changes to be made surrounding colour, typography and the navigation bar and ideas which I had actually briefly thought about but had not had time to implement such as the app onboarding/ welcome page/ player instructions.
I also received the following feedback from Kyle which was very constructive and help improve the overall UI and UX experience of my product. He mentioned the following:
Removing Navigation Bar
We spoke about how we can remove the navigation bar as it is somewhat “not necessary” or not needed for the user to complete the task at hand as many don’t really look for the rules or settings while playing the game and can simple close the screen instead of using quit.
Question Window
Another point to look at was making the question box bigger so the text is less squished, it is easier to read and all round just fits the screen a little better. He also mentioned the option of perhaps of changing how it appears on the screen such as implementing a card-like effect which slides up from the bottom so I am able to utilise my space a little better. Another minor point was just the text and the contrast with the background which is an easy fix.
Dice
Another thought point was the dice and being able to animate it slightly so instead of clicking “roll” the dice vibrates or pulses slightly when it needs to be rolled. I really liked this idea and will think about how I could prototype this within figma and visual it.
Title
I already knew the title needed improvement as I was not happy with it myself but it was brought up about how I could use a more playful font that reflects the game.
Colour
Kyle also mentioned about colour palettes and how I should expand it for my user interface as it is currently very green. This is something I am going to look at so I can tone down the green.
<aside> 💭 Reflection
I am really happy with all the feedback I received as it will allow me to improve my phone app for the final hand it. It also helped me identity my weaknesses and what I could work on to improve for future projects to show my learning and development.
